Conversion rate optimization (CRO) usually means helping online shoppers buy. On Faire, the buyer is a store owner spending their own margin on stock they have to sell again. That changes what "friction" looks like.
Why wholesale CRO is different
A consumer can buy on impulse. A retailer weighs:
- Fit: does this suit my store and my customers?
- Margin: can I sell it at a price that works?
- Commitment: minimums, pack sizes and case quantities.
- Risk: will this brand deliver on time and in good condition?
Documented by Faire: product conversion is one of the brand performance signals Faire uses in ranking (Faire Help Center). Better conversion can therefore help visibility as well as orders.
The wholesale buyer journey
1. Discovery
The retailer finds you in search, a category or a recommendation. Friction here is a listing that does not use buyer words. See our Faire SEO guide.
2. Understanding
They open the listing or storefront. Friction: vague titles, missing dimensions, photos that do not match.
3. Evaluation
They weigh price, margin and minimums. Friction: unclear pack sizes, variants spread across confusing listings, minimums that do not suit a first order. Documented by Faire: Faire notes that retailers often filter by minimums and suggests keeping them reasonable, balanced against margin and shipping costs (Faire Help Center).
4. Trust
They decide whether to take a chance on an unfamiliar brand. Helpful: consistent imagery, complete information, a clear About section and genuine reviews. Documented by Faire: Faire recommends following up with retailers after fulfillment to request reviews (Faire Help Center).
5. First order
Friction: unanswered questions. Reply to messages quickly. Faire lists responsiveness in Faire Messenger among its customer service recommendations (Faire Help Center).
6. Reorder
The first order is a test. Reorders come from product sell through and a smooth experience: accurate shipments, on time delivery, easy reordering of what they bought before.
A practical CRO review
1. Pick your ten most viewed products in the brand portal. 2. For each, read the listing as a retailer. Note every question you would need to ask. 3. Answer those questions in the listing. 4. Check that photos match exactly and show scale. 5. Review minimums and pack sizes against what a first time buyer would reasonably order. 6. Check message response times and recent reviews. 7. Repeat monthly and compare conversion in the portal.
What not to do
Avoid invented urgency, unsupported claims ("bestseller in 500 stores") or discounts that damage margin without a clear goal. Wholesale buyers remember brands that were honest with them.
Our Faire CRO service applies this process across your storefront and listings. Brands also selling on Shopify can read Shopify vs Faire: optimizing both journeys, or book a strategy call.
